Kamran Zargar


A/Prof Kamran Zargar is a Urologist trained in New Zealand who is deeply committed to providing his patients with exceptional care. His expertise lies in urological oncology and robotic surgery, and he has extensive experience in treating general urological conditions such as renal stones and voiding dysfunction, including Laser prostate surgery and HoLEP. Kamran performs many radical prostatectomies for prostate cancer, major pelvic and reconstructive surgery for bladder cancer, and complex renal surgery for kidney cancer.

After graduating from Otago Medical School and completing urological training in New Zealand, A/Prof Zargar pursued a year of fellowship in Australia before embarking on two additional years of accredited sub-specialized training at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Centre and Research Institute in Tampa, Florida. This institution is ranked among the best cancer hospitals in the United States. While there, Kamran gained valuable experience in open and robotic cancer surgery, assessing and treating complex urological malignancies, and was awarded certification by the Society of Urologic Oncology (SUO). He is the only New Zealand surgeon to hold this SUO certification from the United States.

A/Prof Zargar established and currently leads Auckland Urology Research, the only active urological research group in New Zealand enrolling post-graduate students. He is the only Associate Professor of Urology in Auckland. He has conducted full-time research in New Zealand and the United States, collaborating with prominent academics in urologic oncology. Dr Zargar is one of the most published urologists in New Zealand, with over 100 peer-reviewed original articles, review papers, invited commentaries, and book chapters. He serves as an editorial board member and reviewer for several urological journals, and his published works have been cited in clinical guidelines for managing urological cancers. He is currently the Oncology Special Advisory Group Chair for the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand (USANZ).

A/Prof Zargar holds a public appointment as a consultant urologist at Counties Manukau Health and performs surgery at Auckland City Hospital and Manukau Surgical Centre. He also performs private operations at Brightside, Ormiston, and Mercy hospitals. He consults at MacMurray Clinic, Half-moon Bay, Franklin Hospital and Ormiston Urology.
